79% of mothers also work outside the home. It's not an either/or choice and it never has been. Even in the glorified 1950s only about 65% of women with children didn't work outside the home.

The very most offensive part of this guy's speech was the intimation that giving up her dreams and her own goals was actually the most fulfilling thing for his wife. The expectation that women should make their men's dreams come true at the expense of their own is the real problem here. Lots of women love being mothers and wives. What they don't want to be is second-class citizens, which is what Butthead seemed to be advocating for. Just how weak and insecure are you, sir that you need unearned privileges and advantages and apparently aren't capable of a real, modern partnership. Women can stay home and raise kids as their primary job, no problem, but don't act like that is where "life begins" and most particularly that sacrificing your own personhood is noble in any context.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
