Actually, I'm working on one of those. Construction has THE very highest level of sexual harassment and disrespect of women of just about any industry. In Medieval times, women in construction were considered socially just slightly above prostitutes - and then after a while, they were simply banned from being allowed to do that work. Women began working in construction in the US in the 19th century - despite a lot of obstacles. Although they only make up about 6% of the workforce there, it's a number that has been steadily on the rise in the past few years.

Worldwide, about 40% of entry level jobs into all sorts of mining are women, but they don't usually stay more than a few years, due to the types of things described here - lack of respect, lack of opportunities to advance, held to different standards, etc., etc.

This narrative about how men do all the hard and dirty jobs because women don't want to is completely and entirely false. Besides the fact that nursing is actually the most dangerous profession (story on that soon too) the more "macho" the job, the more the men in them have fought hard to keep women out and treat them badly when they do dare to work in those professions.

Your narrative is not only tired, it's almost entirely false. It's just a story that manosphere dudes pass around to each other so they don't have to engage in actual equality.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
