Actually, the Germans took full responsibility for the Holocaust - for the ways that the inactions as well as the actions of everyday Germans, allowed the Nazis to come to power and then to commit the atrocities that they did. They continue to talk about this in schools and to make children aware of it - so that it doesn't happen again. We need to be doing that!

You either uphold the harmful norms of masculinity that you've been indoctrinated into since birth or you actively challenge them. If you don't do the latter, then you are in fact partially responsible for the problems caused by the former.

This speaks to rape culture, but the same might be said about violence, discrimination, etc. They are not aberrant things being perpetrated by bad actors - they are baked-into-our culture problems that stem from accepted norms of masculinity. And you don't have to be a perpetrator, all it takes is for you to be a bystander and this stuff continues unabated.

FEMINISTS DEVELOPED THE CONCEPT OF a rape culture decades ago to describe how men who rape are not simply a handful of “sick” or deviant individuals. They are instead the products of a culture that glorifies and sexualizes male power and dominance and at the same time glorifies and sexualizes female subservience and submission. Rape must be understood not as an aberration in such a cultural environment but as simply the extreme end on a continuum of behaviors. The controversial aspect of this seemingly commonsense argument is that it implicates tens of millions of men who are not rapists. Most men would rather not think about how they participate in a culture that actively promotes — or at the very least tolerates — sexual violence.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
