Again, I don't condone that, but it undoubtedly comes out of decades of extensive abuse and wounding at the hands of men in a society that largely doesn't give a fuck about how pervasive an experience that is for women - beginning in childhood. Accomplished and popular women tend to experience the most abuse - because a lot of men want to take a woman like that down a peg because it threatens them.
