Agreed - and sad but true on the patriarchy part. The vitriol is the truly puzzling aspect for me, but I do think it's related to this feeling of "standing up for the little guy" against anyone trying to go against long held societal norms. Patriarchy is a dominance-based pecking order and any perceived "loss" of ranking or status feels bad as well. Someone really needs to tell them, this is all entirely artificial and made up and if they stopped playing that game, it would evaporate.
