Although each Justice certainly comes with a perspective, their main job, and one that I believe they all take seriously, is to make rulings based on precedent and sound legal judgement — not to advance any particular partisan agenda. The fact that Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Antonin Scalia were very, very close friends speaks to this level of professionalism. The court doesn’t maintain this complete neutrality perfectly, but I completely agree that making the Court overtly partisan would completely undermine it.
