And I'm all for compassion, but there's also a huge difference between an Arab guy who is being stereotyped and treated badly for no real reason other than his nationality and a guy who is very actively engaged in a radicalized community - whether that be a terrorist cell or an incel community.

Not once did the author comment that the man's views were pathological or worrisome and in the context of rising hate against women -something that is being very purposely spread in just these sorts of online communities, it's tone deaf to have focused exclusively on the "complexity" of someone who is by his own admission a part of that.

All the women commenters had the same reaction. Just because abuse of women is so normalized already doesn't mean that it's OK to act like it's no big deal for someone to walk around spouting that shit. If he'd been talking about his irrational hatred of a certain race, or the West, or anything else but women, it's doubtful that the author would have been so cavalier about it - and that's a problem.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
