Anybody who thinks that authoritarianism, social control of personal preferences and lives, as well as xenophobia are the answer to anything doesn't know squat about human beings or our past. For 97% of our history, we lived quite contentedly without any of those things. Then patriarchy came along about 6k years ago and Might Makes Right became the word of the day. We've gone downhill as human beings ever since.

According to The Dawn of Everything, there are, however, three main components of historical autonomy:

The freedom to leave one’s community, knowing one will be welcomed in faraway lands;

The freedom to shift back and forth between social structures, depending on the time of year; and

The freedom to disobey authorities without consequence

After expanding on how scandalous it was that even murderers should get off scot-free, the good father did admit that, when considered as a means of keeping the peace, the Wendat system of justice was not ineffective. Actually, it worked surprisingly well. Rather than punish culprits, the Wendat insisted the culprit’s entire lineage or clan pay compensation. This made it everyone’s responsibility to keep their kindred under control.

Graeber, David. The Dawn of Everything (p. 42). Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Kindle Edition.

All American boys are indoctrinated and policed into Man Box norms - not just Republican boys. They don't all fully buy into it, but they are all pressured to do so and often rewarded when they do.

The Gerai of Borneo believe that violence is lazy, and that rape is unmasculine. Lots of other cultures have similar beliefs and don't require authoritarianism and Might Makes Right beliefs in order to have a nice culture where women are safe and respected and all violence is low.

Also, Iceland doesn't think all that much of monogamy. More than 67% of babies are born to parents who aren't married. You might want to get your facts straight before you start waving them around as evidence of something.

"Iceland maintains a low crime rate through a strong emphasis on community policing, education on ethics, and a justice system focused on rehabilitation over punishment."

Iceland also ranks first in the world for gender equality. It’s not authoritarian, patriarchal values that make for a nice culture — but the complete and total opposite of that.

The police in the US solve about 37% of violent crimes and 12% of property crimes. We require them to do a lot of things they aren't trained to do - things that would better be handled by mental health experts, social workers, etc.

And aside from that, this story is not about political stratagems. It's about cultural norms that feed violence. Try to cling to reality every once in a while. I know it's difficult for you when you are frothing at the mouth so, but at least make the attempt.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
