As usual The Gift Of Fire, you’ve made some sloppy leaps of reasoning with your analogy of black athletes based on how you’d like it to be rather than how it actually was. You’ve conceded that 50% of women in STEM suffer sexual harassment, but comment that there was no discrimination once black athletes were allowed into sports — as if women being discriminated against equates to blacks NOT being discriminated against. First of all, that’s not true. Many baseball leagues dragged their feet for years before letting in blacks, even after Jackie Robinson.

Once Kareem Abdul-Jabbar started dunking, they changed the rules to make that a rules violation in college basketball. It was only 7 years later that it was reinstated. In the meantime, it was called the Alcindor rule. Offensive goaltending was banned at Kansas to keep Wilt Chamberlain from dominating.

But even if there had been no discrimination against black players when they joined white leagues, that would indicate that they’d been either left alone or embraced by the white players. A 50% harassment rate indicates just the opposite — that women are affirmatively been pushed out of STEM by men who don’t want them there and don’t think they belong. Your ability to reason on this topic is entirely impaired by your emotions.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
