At 50 I began to understand that I was polyamorous and pansexual. None of my relationships (other than the one with my husband) fit into any sort of neat categories or boxes, and I actually really like that - although I'm lucky in that it doesn't ever threaten my safety or even my place in society because most people just assume I'm monogamous and heterosexual and it's relatively easy to let them continue to think that. I go understand the safety of known boxes, but also the pain that they can cause.
