Because all men are indoctrinated into these norms to a greater or a lesser degree. Even if your parents didn't mean to, they undoubtedly did so subconsciously, and then you've lived X-how many ever years being bombarded by media, by peers. It's not personal to you - it's what happens to us all.

We are all a product of our culture, and considering that only about 2% of thought is conscious, and the rest comes in the form of this sort of indoctrination, your dad's conscious intent has some impact, but not the amount that you assume.
