But I didn't say that. I'm not responsible for what other people say or believe. Coming after me for what other people say or believe is inappropriate.

I know my son better than you do, and he would like to be verbal, he would like to be able drive, he would like to not have seizures, he would like to be able to not have his mommy help him brush his teeth (at age 26) because if he gets a cavity he has to have general anesthetic to have it filled. He would like to have a more mainstream life, and he would like for his parents to have a normal adult existence that does not revolve around his 24/7 care.

My life is devoted to his wants and needs and it always will be, to the detriment of my own wants and needs, until I am physically unable to do so. Fortunately, we have a lovely friend who is much younger than us who has agreed to care for our son after we are gone. Not every family has that and in the absence of that, these autistic people will have to go into institutional settings, not all of which are great. Is that just fine by you? Are parents monsters for not wanting that for their children?

Again, show a little bit of GD compassion! My child has a profound disability, just like millions and millions of other families in the US alone. If you aren't disabled, great - but you don't speak for those of us who are dealing with children and family members who are.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
