But I don't know any men who have ever experienced any of those things (other than you) or felt that they needed to take those precautions and I've asked them about it since around the time that #MeToo broke. I have also literally read dozens of article and comments by men saying that they had no idea women had to take these precautions because it had never occurred to them since they never feel the need to. This is why women so often talk about this dynamic as they do.

I haven't been able to find any statistics on this, but I strongly suspect that street violence for men is largely concentrated in what might be characterized as "rough areas." Whereas, there are no safe neighborhoods for women. That's not acceptable for any men to have to face that, but it does explain some of the perception vs. the reality of gross numbers. If you can shed any further light on that I'm happy to listen.

I'm 57 years old and have never, ever met a man who has experiences like yours. On the other hand, I've met thousands of women who have had experiences of being afraid on the street since they were young children. That's undoubtedly a part of the disconnect here..

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
