Casanova didn't have lots of money - he was the child of actors and he gambled away whatever money he ever acquired. He was constantly getting thrown into prison for various offenses (and then breaking out), so I'm not sure why you imagine he had status.

Being very tall may have been attractive to some, but being nearly a foot taller than everyone around you makes you stick out - particularly with a beak nose, sunken cheeks, and small pox scars.
