Confidence is attractive, and to the extent that dynamic works, it works both ways. Men do the exact same thing - they tend to be interested in the women other guys find socially desirable. But finding someone that other people have deemed socially admirable still doesn't equate to women being OK with being harassed by a guy just because he's got that cache. Ever heard of the #MeToo movement? I mean really... I could name you 30 rich, powerful, tall, popular men right off the top of my head who got into trouble for harassing women who were definitively not OK with it - and that's just the tip of the iceberg. No theoretical, invented by men narrative needed. There's literally hundreds if not thousands of concrete examples just from the newspapers alone. The more that men say that shit, the more it confirms they don't know anything about women or what women's lives or experiences are actually like.
