Even people on the spectrum can learn basic rules of thumb about whether or not someone welcomes further contact, or wishes to be left alone. My son is autistic, so I'm not just saying this to be contrary or whatever. It's harder than for NT people, but a lot of them don't seem to have been taught these skills or rules of thumb either and I think that is the real issue here.
