Exactly! And even amongst "good guys" it's often quite easy to see the vestiges of this sort of socialization, where women are imagined as existing for the pleasure and enjoyment of men. It's very deeply ingrained in our collective subconscious still and we continuously get bombarded with it in the media.

I just finished reading Esther Perel's book Mating in Captivity and she talks some about the desire for your mate to love you in the same way that (it's imagined that) your mother did when you were an infant, unconditionally, giving all of her love and focus to you without you having to do anything in return. Combine that with continued socialization that women exist for the pleasure of men, and a certain percentage of guys never grow up and realize their wife isn't just a stand in for their idealized mother.
