Except that overwhelming that isn't what most women actually want. It's primarily a figment of men's imagination and a manosphere talking point because that's what men admire in other men, so they think it must be what women want too. With a few exceptions, it isn't. Also, pretending that's what women want means it's not their fault if a guy can't get a date - rather that it being something about the guy. It's a handy scapegoat system which is why no matter how many woman tell men they don't care about that shit, and how much research there is confirming it, they refuse to believe it. The truth is, most guys don't know who the woman who didn't pick them ended up with. They just make a bunch of assumptions that don't reflect badly on them in order to save their own egos.

Conversely, men who cling to patriarchy as natural and their god-given right, do absolutely expect to be "the head of the family" and to be able to control the woman in their life in a wide variety of ways - because that's part of the traditional Man Box. When men were asked what was expected of them as "real men" this was one of the primary pillars: "Real men use physical violence when necessary, and hold control over household decisions and women’s movements." It's just one of the baked-into-the-system aspects of "traditional" masculinity that needs to be overhauled. Not all men subscribe to that belief, but the ones in the study did all recognize it as a core aspect of being "a real man."
