Gaslighting is a term that has a very specific meaning — to “manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity.” It is a tool that is used by narcissists and controllers of any stripe to try to get their way by making you doubt yourself. Anyone who is using it to mean the run of the mill dominance posturing that is a part of living in a patriarchy (which is a social system that is a dominance hierarchy) is using that word incorrectly.
