My mom lived with us the last 5 months of her life, and even though that was THE hardest thing I've ever done in my life, I'm glad that she never had to go into a nursing home - something she was very much against - and that she was never bed-ridden, which would have been the worst sort of torture for her. My friend who lives in Quebec recently had an uncle choose doctor assisted suicide when he determined that his life was no longer sustainable, and I wish that were more socially acceptable and legal here.
