Great essay with many, many good points! As I undersand it, in many military families little boys are taught to refer to their penis as their "gun" as a more polite term. There are so many ways that our culture still (often unconsciously) conflates sex and aggression, so it's no wonder some women have grown up with some antipathy. I'll bet this is surprising to a lot of men, however.
