How did the term feminist become a part of this conversation? Talk about irrelevant!! I do not identify as a feminist, and even if I did, how other people respond to that term has zero bearing on this discussion. That fact that you bring this up indicates that you have a general ax to grind rather than something meaningful to say on this topic, a part of why you can’t actually make your points. You have made no case for why we need gender roles other than to say that all cultures seem to have had them.

The story about the plow is not beside the point — it IS the point. It shows that gender roles are societally created and serve the needs of whoever is in power at the moment. They change over time and with different cultures, indicating that they are not immutable. What jobs people can have is informed by their role in society, and if you aren’t talking about jobs, what are you even talking about? The current role of women in our society is to subserviently please and care for men and children (a role that came about due to plowed agriculture). Their role is to be a human giver, rather than an equal human being. Women are to be docile, decorative, and to serve the interests of men. Are you actually advocating for that to continue?

I should have stopped the last time I said I was going to. There really is no point.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
