How does society get hold of something so vital? Patriarchy! With the onset of agriculture, this was the first time that humans had any substantial personal possessions to pass along to heirs. Suddenly, women’s sexuality has to be policed and controlled — because women aren’t naturally monogamous (and neither are men). Instead of a society built on cooperation and pleasure, you get the onset of one built on stratification and control.
