I agree, but since so much of the Swiftie experience seems to be that she's kind of like your really cool and pretty friend (instead of a distant and mysterious "star"), I think they are having a vicarious romance through her. What's his name, the Chiefs guy really made an effort to meet her - went to her concert with a friendship bracelet he'd made, and was apparently super sad when he heard that she doesn't speak to anyone right after a show to rest her voice. But, unlike so many other guys, he's got no problem making it clear that he liked her and finally DID meet her. In a time when lots of guys don't seem to think that's cool - to let a woman know you are really interested and really like her, and when so many long-term partners check out of maintaining the romance - I think it's getting to experience something they maybe have never had from a man (or not for a long, long time) through her.

Doesn't mean it's not sad and a little weird, but I really do think that's what's happening here. It is a parasocial relationship, and people would do better to try to improve the actual ones they are in, but it's a lot less work, and a lot less vulnerable to just revel in someone else's.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
