I agree that Disney et al., have promulgated those stories but they didn’t create them. Our entire social system fosters these very binary notions about just about everything and has since monogamy became a part of the institutional fabric about 10K years ago. Before that time, we had cooperative breeding, partible paternity, highly respected women working as sacred intimates in the temples, and matrilineal lineage.
I hear often from people who assume that poly is about sexual boredom because they have no concept of how to deeply care for more than one person in a romantic capacity at a time. It goes against everything that we’ve been taught about such relationships, including that jealousy and possessiveness are not only inevitable but a sign of real love. I knew I could love more than one person at a time. I just didn’t think the rest of it was viable. Silly me! 😁
