I agree that this ought to be taken into consideration - and under Roe it was. But for the "life begins at conception" brigade, they don't see any difference between a cluster of cells that doesn't even have an actual heart yet and a fetus of 8 months. Nobody should be punished for having a miscarriage - that's just barbaric.

And, as I noted, this piece was not intended to be about abortion rights except as they illustrated the rest of what I wanted to say. It was already 10 minutes long as it was.
