I appreciate hearing from you and hearing that you do so much within your household/family. However, you are falling into the common misconception about the difference between individuals and societal dynamics. Anything that mentions statistics (of any sort) illustrates trends, and in this instance, overwhelming trends, for women to do way more home and childcare work than men — on the whole. This does not have any reflection on what individuals do or don’t do.

I never make blanket statements about groups of people, which is why I used phrases like “some couples” in this story and talked about how my husband does not act like a child who expects to be taken care of. This is a very serious problem and a major reason why women don’t have parity in the world of work outside of the home, so if you aren’t one of the guys who is a part of this problem, then you don’t need to be worried about this piece because it doesn’t pertain to you. It’s speaking to the ones who do act this way.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
