I can still remember being a child in the 1970s and the police coming to our house after we were robbed. They asked my mother her age for the report and she wouldn't tell them. I thought it was strange to care about that, but then I was still too young to know the agism that women face.
I'm about to turn 58 and am pretty open about it, but then again, I don't have a lot of areas of my life where I might face any repercussions for it, so I get why sometimes people lie. Still, it's great to start challenging the notion that we need to.
