I do really think that most women (unless they've been wounded beyond repair) do want to encourage the guys who are actually trying, because most women actually really like men and want to get along with them. They also want to maintain boundaries, and make it clear what hasn't or isn't working for them, but that's not the same as actually hating men or wanting them to fail or whatever - something I think very few women actual feel.
