I do think there is something to what you've said. I also believe that people look for rational sounding explanations to explain the emotion-laden beliefs that are deep in their subconscious minds. The rise and continued popularity of Jordan Peterson, being a case in point. Patriarchy also wants to justify itself by making it seem like it's the way that we've always lived.

I don't know if you saw my story from earlier in the week on why so many cling to the gender binary. The gist of it was about the human predilection for schismogenesis where people identify who they are in part by making choices and adopting habits and attitudes that contrast them with another group. I think that is going on as well. In fact, it was a comment on that story that prompted me to write this one.
