I don’t know why I didn’t think to mention this earlier James Finn and Dave Murray, but the guy who really prompted me to write this piece is a military dude (or so I suppose) since he’s got a uniform on in his profile picture. He said that no-one was hungry in this country so I bombed him the overwhelming statistics from a variety of sources about how 40 million people are hungry, including 1 in 6 children and about that many elderly. In the face of stats from the VFW about what an issue this is amongst veterans, and most of the data coming from the USDA, he then attempted to change the subject to “well, how are you intending to fix that?”

I told him that wasn’t the question at hand and asked if that was what they taught him in the military — to never consider a problem unless you already knew how to solve it? I don’t know what the disconnect is between his military training and his behavior with me (and I’ve seen this guy do the same with others as well), but there was definitely a disconnect.
