I don't think feminism makes light of anything - least of all how hard it can be to challenge the status quo. I certainly don't - but the fact remains, women have been doing that same work for hundreds of years. They have been literally fighting for their lives against a culture (including some other women) that wants them back in their gender box without the need for pats on the back.

And why does this remove agency from men? That makes no sense at all, and I think severely underestimates men. If I was raised to be a white supremacist, and realized that was morally wrong and was also hurting me, I could change. People can and have given up that identity - particularly when it's clear that identity is harmful. There's nothing but agency there.

And while I do think there is something to the identity piece, thousands and probably millions of men have made that transition already. Guys like Jackson Katz, Tony Porter, Paul Kivel and others have been leading groups and otherwise supporting men in making this change since the 1970s. The real issue is that men think they are losing something, when in truth, they would be gaining a lot in the long run to give up the Man Box. The trick is to help them to realize that, which I think mostly has to come from other men because they sure don't believe women on that front.

I agree that it's probably time to move on, but I too appreciate the conversation.

PS — for what it’s worth, the ouroboros, the snake eating its own tail, is a symbol of wholeness and the transition from death into rebirth.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
