I don't understand this line of questioning. Having more options and choices is always, always better. Being forced into one narrow lane and told that's who you must be is never a better circumstance. Ever heard of "mothers little helper"? Huge numbers of 40s, 50s, and 60s housewives drank and took pills just trying to cope. It was what spawned the women's movement of the 70s - women refusing to be pigeon-holed like that anymore.
