I get that it's tricky because there are no hard and fast "rules" anymore but anything that smacks of transactionalism rubs me the wrong way. We should be trying to get to know each other, and be kind to each other, and not look for ways to control or punish each other. How that shakes out as relates to paying for dates seems pretty individualized to me.
