I love this visual. It really kind of sums things up. And, that's the part that is confronting. I get that - but it's not our jobs to make it easier for men to face.

The bottom line is that we will get nowhere if we continue to ignore the way masculine socialization helps to produce abusive boys or boys who grow into abusive men. And we are not going to further our understanding of this process by using gender-neutral language to talk about the crisis of “youth” violence.

Katz, Jackson. The Macho Paradox (p. 108). Sourcebooks. Kindle Edition.

Patriarchal male socialization drives violence by men against men - and women. It drives sexual violence by men against women - and men. There's no getting around the fact that a lot of the way that masculinity is constructed in this culture is harmful - to everyone. Until more men are willing to join you and men like you who are doing their work around this topic, little progress will be made. Guys, it may not all be your fault, but it is your responsibility to shift masculine norms into ones that are healthier for everybody.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
