I realized after I wrote this that it was from last night, and I've settled down. But yes, in general, passing along things you've just heard from people who are antagonistic as facts is generally not a good go-to strategy.

It's just that I get told every single fricken day by men who don't actually know what they are talking about that I'm pulling stuff out of my ass - despite the fact that everything I write is well documented, with multiple quotes from science magazines and experts - most of them male. It gets really, really tiresome - and it is also part of a very real credibility gap that even women at the highest levels of government and business face.
