I recently met a couple when I was on vacation who were from Colorado. The man told me about finding a baby rattlesnake in his garage and trapping it in a Tupperware so he could relocate it. My estimation of this man immediately went up. I don't want rattlesnakes in my yard or garage either, but the impulse to try to be kind touched me.
Where I live now was ranches only 25 years ago so we have a lot of rats (and bunnies). The rat snakes (and probably others) help to keep that in check. Every animal has their place in the ecosystem, but as you note, human men have the ability to not be predators out of necessity and we can and should expect better from them. Anything else is pure misandry.
