I spend a fair amount of time trying to do this in my writing, but it's disheartening to see how so many men reject this flat out. They are so enmeshed with patriarchy and take so much of their sense of self from these sorts of masculine norms that a lot of them don't want to acknowledge how it harms men too. It's kind of like trying to talk sense to someone in a cult. It makes it very difficult to move toward a healthier culture that would benefit men just as much as women (and everyone).
Patriarchy demands of men that they become and remain emotional cripples. Since it is a system that denies men full access to their freedom of will, it is difficult for any man of any class to rebel against patriarchy, to be disloyal to the patriarchal parent, be that parent female or male.
