Patsy Fergusson, I think that a lot about jealousy is learned and is as you said part and parcel of what's expected in monogamy. I've heard many people reference jealousy as an indication of true affection, and they haven't quite believed me when I've said that isn't necessary in order to have real love. Monogamy and any form of ethical non-monogamy which is done openly and honestly are really two different types of relationship systems. It's hard to sit inside of one and imagine the other, particularly when monogamy is so reinforced and ubiquitous. It's like imagining that you are actually Chinese when you've been an Anglo American all of your life.

I do think it's interesting how subcultures take on their own mores and traits and how that becomes a thing within that group. For example, hipsters pretty much saved the Hush Puppy shoe company from extinction. How did that go from being something that a couple of people bought, perhaps ironically, to being a signature of that subculture? Who really knows, but James Finn, if you do ever have any more insights, I'd be interested to hear them also.

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
