I think this is a large part of the core issue - that it's been set a certain way in some people's minds and they can't wrap their brains around the fact that it might be different for someone else. And then there's the whole white male-centric thing where some people just have to go mental that they are no longer the center of the fucking universe. Talk about fragile...

From what I've read, Gaiman is thrilled with the Sandman adaptation and so are the bulk of the people who watch the show, including a lot of hardcore fans. It's fine for someone to have a different opinion, but acting like theirs is the only relevant one is just childish.
