I think this is an MGTOW story. Nobody in the history of the world has ever been yelled out for politely asking someone if they can assist them. Now, people (both male and female) have been attacked and had nobody offer to help them, but that's a different problem entirely.

When in doubt, ask someone if you can offer them some help. Then they have the option to choose whatever works for them. Any issues may come from someone sweeping in to "help" when no actual help is required, but things like opening doors, that's a pretend issue that doesn't actually exist.
