I think this is incredibly common. Couples get married and never talk about actual fears, desires, expectations, etc. It's great that you both were able to do that and found a way forward together.

Overwhelmingly, I don't think that opening up a marriage will work in the face of infidelity, but you two clearly did the work and had the honest communication to beat those odds. Congratulations!
