I think this stems from old narratives about men "acquiring" something that once he "owns" it is now his rather than learning to think about marriage as an ongoing partnership. Women file for 69% of divorces and from what I've read, a lot of it stems from a lack interest in maintaining and preserving the relationship. Men are still operating out of the scripts of an older time, and women don't have to settle for that for economic or social reasons any longer.

I've been married for over 30 years and can attest that courting attitudes and behaviors can absolutely continue for the long haul. This doesn't necessarily mean going on dates, etc., but it does mean continuing to show interest and affection for the other person without taking them for granted because now they are "yours."

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint. I do not feel ashamed. I'm your hell, I'm your dream, I'm nothing in between.
