I totally agree that the "rules" of our culture need to be overhauled, but until that happens, there are some things that it doesn't make much sense to complain about. Women who are "too assertive" get dinged for not being "feminine" enough, and most women aren't attracted to jerks - they are attracted to people with confidence, who they sometimes find out later are also jerks. In addition, people tend to be subconsciously drawn to dynamics that feel familiar to them, so if you came from a family where your dad was kind of jerk to you, that's what reads as love. The root of these ills is the social system of patriarchy, a dominance-based hierarchy where the father is still envisioned as "the head" of the family (something that more than 50% of Americans overtly believe, and a lot of other people subconsciously believe).
