If a police officer or their minister had been standing in their kitchen when they felt triggered, you can well bet that they would have controlled themselves and not "lost it" to the point of killing their partner. They "snapped" because they did not feel the need to control themselves and instead wanted to externalize blame for their actions. I get that this comes out of a place of likely childhood trauma and insecurity but it is so not an excuse for anything.
