If it were actually common sense, so many men wouldn't be going about it so poorly, and with such bad results. Clearly, a ton of them could benefit from some guidance. Way too many of the guys I come across have giant gaping holes in their understanding of what women want, how women perceive certain things, and don't get how to make a real connection (even if it's just for a hook-up). They try sex moves taken from violent porn, disregard the safety concerns that are par for the course for women and so invite women on dates that trigger alarm bells even if they have good intentions, and assume that women approach dating the way men do.

Anyone who think this stuff is common sense for most men doesn't understand the culture.
