I'll still be caring for my son when he's 50, not because he's a freeloader, but because he has a disability and I know several other moms in the same position. It's not that some dads don't help, but the bulk of this kind of work does tend to fall to mothers. I love my child but I do very much wish I'd had a more realistic idea of what motherhood would actually be like.
