Talking about how polyamory encourages those things
A friend of a friend recently connected me with Canadian creativity and innovation blogger, Anne-Julie Vallee. We had a great chat about polyamory as a way to interject those things into intimate relationships — even if you want to stay monogamous — and this special Valentine’s edition is available as of today.
Most people tend to focus on the sexual aspects of polyamory, even to the point of conflating it with swinging, but polyamory is about multiple intimate connections undertaken honestly and consensually, some of which might not even include sex. In other words, polyamory is only about sex approximately as much as monogamous relationships are about sex. It’s an important part of most intimate relationships, but it’s not the only thing.
In this 45-minute interview, Anne-Julie and I discuss how not having pre-fab relationship parameters encourages poly folks to communicate more fully and more often about what they want and expect, as well as when things are going well, and when they aren’t, etc. Participants have to very literally design their own relationships and then do the work to maintain them.
