I'm against conscription for anyone, but I think it's fair to say that male dominated legislative bodies have kept women from combat positions and dangerous jobs in the military (and selective service) not because they wanted to keep women safe, but because much like the Night Witches, they didn't like the idea of "little girls" in men's spaces. And, it is women who have fought to be allowed into those jobs when they qualify for them.
