This "must provide" mentality is part of what needs to be adapted. As it stands, 20% of women make more than their male partners and about 30% make the same. In 22 US cities younger women make more than men their age do. That's only going to increase, and many men not being OK with that is fighting the tide of reality. There are women who need to get on board with that as well, but it's primarily a dominance hierarchy issue - that men need to lead the way in shifting.
